About Us

Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers is a 501C3 non-profit organization.

The first Crime Stoppers program began in September 1976 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and has since grown to include over 1,000 cities and 13 countries worldwide. The mission of Crime Stoppers is to work with law enforcement, the media, and the community to promote safety for all.

In September 1982, San José launched our local program originally known as the San José Crime Stoppers in partnership with the San José Police Department.

On August 17, 2000, San José Crime Stoppers changed their name to The Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers (SVCS) to reflect the newly expanded program and partnerships with all of the law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County, including the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol.

Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers Board of Directors

The Board of Directors oversees the program and is responsible for fundraising, engaging with our communities, and building stronger networks with our State (California Crime Stoppers) and National Programs (Crime Stoppers USA). The Board of Directors is a non-paid volunteer board made up of dedicated volunteers who share the public safety mission.

What we do

Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers is a cooperative effort between law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County, local media, and a volunteer board of directors.

Our program allows anonymity to those who submit information about serious crimes as we do not ask for names or personal information from our tipsters.

With our law enforcement partnership, our program operates a website (siliconvalleycrimestoppers.org), the P3TIPS mobile app, and telephone line (408) 947-STOP (7867) for the community to report non-emergency crime tip information anonymously.

If the information you provide leads to an arrest, you are eligible for a cash reward from the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers program.

Community members are urged to submit their crime tips using the P3TIPS mobile app, or by calling (408) 947–STOP (7867) if they had information they would like to submit anonymously.

You can connect to P3TIPS by clicking on the button that indicates P3TIPS below.

Cash rewards up to $1,000 are offered for information leading to an arrest. Cash rewards do vary in dollar amounts depending on crimes.
